    Amaranthus hypochondriacus 'Giant Purple' is a broadleaf deciduous annual / biennial with purple foliage. In fall and summer burgundy and purple flowers emerge followed by red fruit. Features glossy texture. Attracts bees, beneficial insects and butterflies making it an excellent addition to pollinator gardens. Grows well with sun - mostly sun and regular water. Does well in average, rich and well-drained soil. A good option if you're seeking something heat tolerant.

    I love tall Amaranthus for its fabulous form and spectacular, long-lasting flowering Summertime heads! All of them are show-stoppers in the garden and this newest variety may be the showiest of all! Impressively tall – up to 6’ or 7’ – ‘Giant Purple’ bears massive flower heads of the most beautiful purple color. The spikes last a long time and remain attractive long after bloom. Produces a small edible dark red grain. Nutritious, it can be ground into flour or cooked like oatmeal, or just leave them on the plant for a birdie fiesta! Grain can be grown and harvested even in USDA Zone 5. Rich soil for best show! To 2' wide. Self-sows!
