Nursery contributed plant descriptions

From the mountains of Brazil comes this hardy species of one of the most popular cut flowers ever grown. I've grown it in my zone 5 garden for over 10 years now, and its made a lovely colony of light green foliage about 8-12" tall. In early Summer it starts its long period of bloom, producing volumes of reddish, slightly up-facing, trumpet like flowers spotted with green and brown.
This beautiful and intriguing species from northern Brazil has red, white and green flowers with black flecks. The petals are held in a more tubular shape than the more open hybrids.
Everyone seems to be selling the variegated form of this right now, but I have to be honest, I prefer the regular green one. The variegation seems to clash with the tropical-looking red and green flowers. I think it looks much more lush in green! This is a hardy Alstroemeria, to Zone 5. It makes a great cut flower and hummingbirds love the flowers. To about 3’ tall. This one reportedly spreads less rampantly than some of the other Alstroemerias.
