Nursery contributed plant descriptions

PURPLE GLORY SHRUB - LARGE LEAF PRINCESS FLOWER - A tropical shrub with hugh ovate furry leaves that produce large panicles of 3" deep violet purple flowers with large protruding stamens summer thru fall. Full to part sun and hardy to zone 9. Spectacular flowers.
The huge tropical velvety foliage is very unique and is topped by spikes of royal purple flowers in summer. Grow it as a specimen or in the back of a border as a perennial in mild winter areas. A real conversation piece whether in flower or not. May freeze back in winter but is reliably hardy in zones 9 and warmer. Item# 9349.
A plant that has gotten much attention in our nursery when it is in bloom. A relative of the more commonly grown “Princess Flower”, T. heteromala has darker & bluer flowers which are nicely set off by the red flower stems. Each flower spike gets to be 18” long with many blooms on each one. Blooms summer through Fall. In addition to the flowers is the nice foliage. Bold, felty leaves are covered with soft hairs that give the plant a silvery sheen in some lights. Fast growing to 10’ tall & 5-8’ wide. From Brazil.
