Nursery contributed plant descriptions

This pretty South African native looks remarkably like a dwarf version of the related South American Tibouchina. Large, brilliant magenta flowers appear in clusters on branched tips June-October & make a spectacular display. The velvety, oval-shaped, dark green leaves contrast perfectly with the flowers. The two different sets of stamens on each bloom are an unusual feature. A soft, wooded shrub to 5’ tall x 3’ spread, it makes a rewarding garden plant, provided it gets enough water in the Summer. It makes an excellent shrub border specimen plant. Dissotis canescens prefers full sun & thrives in good soil with lots of compost.
