Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Tall & graceful? Check! Easy to grow? Check! Rare, reseeding, & fabulous?? Check, double check! It’s like someone made this plant specifically to the nursery’s specifications! Flowering in Summer, this stately plant grows 5’ tall & 3’ wide, first developing demure down-turned buds whose white petals then unfurl upward, revealing a protruding & detailed proboscis of a stamen. The petals number eight or more, & the flower is very much octopus like in its countenance. This species is native to Lebanon & Israel, & will grow in heavy soils (CLAY), & in full sun. After blooming it will reseed & die. Fun trivia - the genus Michauxia is named after King Louis XVI of France’s royal botanist, Andreas Michaux, who traveled to America during the late 1700’s in search of ornamental plants in the New World.
