Nursery contributed plant descriptions

One of the showiest of all North American Penstemons, a mature Beardtongue plant can reach heights of 2', producing a profusion of lavender trumpets that are a favorite nectar source for hummingbirds. This plant is endangered in some states and is not often seen in the wild. Penstemon grandiflorus requires excellent drainage, preferring dry sandy and rocky soils. Will not grow in clay. Hardy to Zones 3 - 7.
A new native Penstemon from Texas. It grows upright to 3 ½’ tall with only a 10” spread. In Summer, it bears wands of lavender-blue, 1 1/2-2” flowers. Lovely silvery foliage too. This one likes it on the drier side so provide good drainage. Great for attracting hummingbirds & bumble bees!
