Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Grassy tufts with clusters of purple flowers.
Native from Yugoslavia to Greece this narrow leaved mat former is similar to graminifolius and equally garden worthy. ZONE 5
Though it looks like not much more than a little green tuft, this rock garden perennial has a surprise in store! In Spring the grassy leaves throw out blooming stems of purple flowers that are (in comparison to the leaves) enormous! Each blooming spike bears a cluster of flowers, about 2” across. When not blooming it can be easily overlooked, as it only reaches 4” high & wide. This species does not appreciate winter wet, & therefore should be planted in a location with good drainage – pots, rock gardens, & alpine troughs would all be fine. Other than the drainage issue it is an easy plant to grow! Top dress soil with gravel to keep this little guy happy! Native to the Balkans.
