Nursery contributed plant descriptions

One of the most exquisite Passifloras in cultivation & an excellent balance between easy to grow but not TOO easy to grow (i.e. it will not eat your entire house.) Each beauteous 5” bloom bears flashy purple blue filaments against a rich, magenta purple array of petals & is artfully held at the end of long (up to 8”) swooping peduncles, which make a U-turn at the end to gaze upward. Easy to maintain in a large pot or in the ground, Passiflora loefgrenii will grow 10’ or more, but is easily pruned to size. Best in part sun, it thrives with average but even moisture & should not dry out for too long. Foliage is evergreen & three-lobed with a matte finish. Top dress with compost annually in Spring for best appearance & performance. Though it’s said that this species is very sensitive to cold, we’ve found it quite hardy here at the nursery, but protect when temps get frosty just in case. The fruit is edible, but smells like garlic, so probably not one people would choose to eat! From Brazil.
