Nursery contributed plant descriptions

The tallest of the “Cabbage Trees!” An imposing specimen, C. sphaerocephala makes a lollipop-round profile in the landscape. A bit more multi-branching than the more known Cussonia paniculata, they still keep their beautiful symmetry. Leaves are heavily cleft & a shiny dark green & the bark is reddish, fading to dark grey. In the wild, these trees can reach a staggering 80’ but there’s little chance they will accomplish this feat here in California. And like all Cussonias, they can be grown as container subjects or even as bonsais, which keeps them substantially smaller! Average soil is fine. From South Africa.
