Nursery contributed plant descriptions

I gasped when I first saw this in bloom at Heronswood one cool April day. This plant seemed too delicate to grace a garden in our region. Yet this Chilean shrub, with its large and exquisite open cups of lavender to white flowers in April and May, is hardier than many realize (mine survived winter 2004 just fine). Full sun is best and sharply draining soil is imperative.
A quickly growing tall shrub from Chile. The stems and large maple like leaves are covered in white felt giving the entire plant a distinct silvery look. Throughout the warmer months clusters of outward facing, pale lavender, saucer shaped flowers are borne in profusion.Elegant and exceptional.Good drainage is essential.

Gorgeous, 3” blooms borne in profusion grace this rewarding, tall & fast-growing “Flowering Maple” from Chile. Best in Sunset zones 15-17, the flowers are usually silvery lavender, but sometimes a beautiful white. These plants are seed grown, & therefore, we cannot guarantee the color. You'll have to take a chance! The form is like a large Lavatera shrub, multi-branching & bearing large, felty, gray-green, maple-like leaves. Long bloom season! EASY to grow, but do give it rich, well-drained soil.
