This choice small 4-6" spreader from the Caucasus Mountains has lovely pleated, gray-green leaves topped by chartreuse flowers in late summer. The leaves are especially charming in the morning when they are filled with droplets of dew; a wonderful dainty plant for the herb or fairy garden, rockery or perennial bed. S-PSh/M
Silver green serrated leaves catch water drops like diamonds; small clusters of yellow green flowers May>June, turning reddish with age. 4-5” tall and 18-24” wide. Most soils, happiest with regular water; sun to part shade; deer & critter resistant. Easy.  USDA Zone 5  3" pot
Similar in stature to A. mollis and almost as tall but differing in that the old flower clusters turn orange and red in autumn. Photo courtesy of Walters Gardens.
A charming dwarf form with gray-green serrated foliage and vibrant citron-yellow flower clusters that don a reddish cast once they are spent, we plant it primarily as a ground cover in small niches of the rockery.
A bit reminiscent of A. alpina of the 300 or so species this gem from the Carpathians ranks as one of the best. The foliage is very neat and the display of yellow flowers is among the best. ZONE 4
A little groundcover to fall in love with! Easy-breezy even for the most beginning gardener, “Dwarf Lady’s Mantle” is tough, long-lived & TOLERANT OF BOTH CLAY & SANDY SOIL. A cutie too, it forms a tidy, dense mound to only 5” tall & up to 2’ across. Scalloped muted green leaves are pretty but you’ll love them most for how they retain & sparkle with water droplets after rain or watering. An excellent choice for a smaller scale groundcover, especially under shrubs or trees or as an edging. Swell in mixed containers & vase arrangements. Pretty, frothy chartreuse flowers in Spring to mid-Summer, too! Can be grown in sun in the Bay Area. Cut back to refresh anytime.
