Nursery contributed plant descriptions

CREEPING FOXGLOVE, CHINESE VIOLET, GANGES PRIMROSE, COROMANDEL. A fast growing creeping spreading herbaceous ground cover, perennial in frost free areas. The white to bluish purple trumpet shaped flowers resemble foxglove with the dotted throats. Blooming from spring to fall in full sun to shade. Grows 1' tall and spreads 2-3'. Attracts butterflies, tolerates heat and humidity, hardy in zones 8-10.
Asystasia gangetica is an unusual creeper from South Africa & tropical Asia whose dainty 1” flowers are marked with intricate purple tessellation. If you live in a frost free zone, this species is a fabulous groundcover – it spreads easily & quickly, rooting along the nodes & forming a dense emerald green carpet, 1’ high, & 3’ wide in time. In colder areas (including the Bay Area) it is damaged by frost, but recovers in Spring. Bees & butterflies frequent the flowers. With more water, a full sun exposure would be appropriate, but this species will be easier to grow in part shade. It can take root competition from trees, & can also be grown in pots. Best in rich soil.
