Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Here we have an excellent habitat plant & an exceedingly tough little ground cover. It also happens to be a very beautiful native! 1” flowers of pink & rose are perfectly formed & tightly held against the foliage, which is densely leaved & stays tight to the ground. The plant barely tops over an inch high in the sun. In shade it gets a bit taller - 2”! Spreads as wide as you’ll let it. If you don’t fear bees (they love the flowers!) I highly suggest letting this plant overtake your lawn! This species has a broad range throughout the West & this form is from the northern coast of California. It is very low, with very small leaves & deeply colored flowers that are much loved by many native insects. Native Americans used “Cow Clover” as a food source - the roots & leaves are edible. Supposedly, this plant prefers a moist spot, but we’ve seen it take low water in stride.
