Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Stachys chamissonis is an attractive & rarely seen California native with large showy flowers. In early Summer, this shrubby Stachys produces lots of 9” spikes of pink-purple flowers that hummingbirds love. Growing to 3’ tall, it has robust square stemmed branches with purple markings. Stachys chamissonis needs a lot of room as it spreads indefinitely by rhizomes. A great choice for a creek restoration project & useful for soil retention. It is happy in wet spots or places with no drainage or seasonal flooding. Often seen growing in roadside ditches in Pt. Reyes. Does well with regular garden irrigation as well & makes a beautiful California native plant.
