Beach primrose is a low, fast-growing, spreading perennial. It forms dense mats of light green-to-silvery foliage 2' wide x 6" to 12" high. The ground-hugging habitat makes this plant an excellent choice for erosion control in sandy soil. Likes to reseed. Makes an excellent container plant inland. Canary yellow flowers turn red as they age & bloom in great numbers April through August. native to California and is found only slightly beyond California borders. Stabilizes sand dunes with its fast growing and spreading habit. No Historical Uses found. Found in sandy beaches. Communitites located in Coastal Strand Between 0 and 328 feet.
Native only to our coastal California strand, "Beach Primrose" has a ground hugging habit with light green foliage & lots of conspicious, bright canary-yellow flower, which turn red as they age. Very long bloom period. Excellent for erosion control. Try it as edging, in a container, rock garden or a hanging basket. 4" by 16".
