Nursery contributed plant descriptions

This herbaceous evergreen perennial forms a 1 foot x 1 foot evergreen clump of prettily scalloped bright green leaves. An easy & excellent choice for planting under redwoods & live oaks. The prolific, graceful, delicate, cream-colored flowers rising another foot or 2 above the foliage show against the red stems to make this species one of the most beautiful of the taller Heucheras. Flowers from May to July. Very nice massed in a native shade garden with decent drainage for a spectacular mass of dainty white flowers mid-Spring to early Summer--a first class show. If given some summer water and the occasional 'haircut', foliage remains neat all year. It is also a good choice for containers. Native to California and is found only slightly beyond California borders. Provides pollen and nectar for butterflies and bees. Natives of the Northwest U.S. have used tonic derived of Alumroot roots to aid digestive difficulties, but extraction from the root can also be used to stop minor bleeding, reduce inflammation, and otherwise shrink moist tissues after swelling. Found in moist banks of humus and rocks, gravely banks, and rock crevices. . Communitites located in Mixed Evergreen, Closed-cone Pine, Redwood, Yellow Pine, Red Fir Forest Between 0 and 8202 feet .
An EASY & excellent choice for planting UNDER REDWOODS & LIVE OAKS. Native to the Bay Area & much of the western US, & thriving in bright to medium shade, Heuchera micrantha forms a 1’x1’ evergreen clump of prettily scalloped bright green leaves that would be lovely even if it never bloomed. From mid-Spring to early Summer, graceful, airy panicles of glimmering, tiny bell-shaped flowers in pink or cream rise another 12” above the foliage. Very nice massed in a native shade garden with decent drainage, or grow it here & there in the flower garden, especially beside or beneath rose bushes for a weed suppressing foliar accent. Though it requires no summer water once established, it looks much prettier in summer with a once-a-week watering.
