(SPARKLER SEDGE) This sedge has personality! Its bright, variegated leaves arranged in whorls around 12-15” tall stems lend a decidedly artistic look to our woodland gardens in light shade. Average garden conditions will suffice for this ‘pretty’. A nice touch artsy touch that looks great 365 days a year! USDA Z7

Carex phyllocephala ‘Sparkler’ displays upright, evergreen clumps topped with whorls of white and green striped foliage. Mature plants resemble a grove of miniature, variegated palm trees! Deer resistant. Ornamental grasses are low maintenance and grow well in most soil types. They look beautiful, adding color, height and movement to your garden. Sparkler Sedge is an excellent companion plant with contrasting foliage.

This striking variegated sedge originated as a sport off the solid green species and quickly surpassed its parent in popularity. The long slender leaves held in virtual whorls are broadly lined with creamy-white margins and give the plant its distinctive character. This handsome foliage forms on thick bamboo-like stalks to 2' tall and brightens partly shaded corners through much of the year, until cold winter temperatures knock it down for the season. Plant in rich soil in part shade or full sun along the coast and provide regular water. Hardy to 10F. Japan.

Tony Avent describes these as tiny variegated palm trees, but you might get the picture. This evergreen, variegated sedge is best on a moist site and out of the blasty sun. To 12-15" high with mini-papryus-like foliage. Handsome in the woodland garden and stunning in a container. From Japan and frost hardy in upper USDA zone 7.
