Acanthus leaves (often carved into wood or stone, such as in Corinthian Pillars) are always showy, however, 'Whitewater' is even showier! This is a delightfully bold perennial with its bright splashes of white on the huge leaves making it a superb 2-3' accent with 3-5' dramatic stalks of pink and cream summer flowers; guaranteed to brighten any garden spot or large container. Whitewater' is a vigorous, variegated Acanthus with striking, bold leaves with white margins and splashing. Makes a large clump with 4 to 5 foot tall ornamental flower stalks of pink and cream in summer. This was bred with A. 'Summer Beauty' for vigour, more hardiness, and heat and humidity tolerance. The result is a much stronger cultivar than 'Tasmanian Angel'. A mature clump of this would be downright stunning -- I think I'm starting to lust for this plant!
Striking white frosted bold foliage forms hefty clumps give rise to 3-4' stalks bearing cream white and pink tinged hooded blossoms in early-midsummer. Grows best in well drained spot in full sun or part shade (provide some shade in very hot climates. ' Whitewater' has tolerated the intense drought and heat of the summer of 2016 really well. Where happy, plants will form vigorous clumps 3' across or more. Because it has A. mollis in its heritage it is listed as being hardy to zone 7a (0F) Shipping bulky qt. pots.
Large, deeply cut leaves seemingly dusted with snow form a large clump that sends up 4' tall pink-red spikes of luminous white flowers with pink tips. June and July bloom. This veritably glows in the garden. Give it a dark backdrop and it will be a lantern! For arrangements, there is little that is more dramatic than these flower spikes.
