x Mahoberberis miethkeana is a broadleaf evergreen shrub with green foliage. In spring yellow flowers emerge followed by black fruit. Features glossy texture. Attracts bees, birds and hummingbirds making it an excellent addition to pollinator gardens. Grows well with sun - mostly shade and occasional - low water. Drought tolerant once established. Does well in average, clay, gritty and well-drained soil.

A really splendid and (considering its parents are from different genera-impossible by definition) amazing, dense evergreen shrub (to 6') whose glossy leaves show influence of both parents; yellow flowers and black fruits. S/M

This was a rogue seedling in a batch of Mahonia aquifolium seedlings at Miethke Nursery in Tacoma back in the 50's and thought to be a chance hybrid with a Berberis (Barberry). All things old are new again and we're pleased to offer this scarcity. See it in our shade garden.
