Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Variegated Cattail. Rock hardy bog lover with standout white striped leaves and complemented by the expected cattail. Loves a rich wet soil and will grow in shallow water. Quick spreader. Euell Gibbons extolled the virtues of cattail pollen in pancake mix in "Stalking the Wild Asparagus
I wish the picture showed the variegation better as it is quite noticeable. Grow this one in full sun to part shade and in a location that is moist or up to 12 inches of water. Height is 60 - 72" tall. Good for zones 3-11 which covers just about everyone.

Variegated Cattails. A distinctive and vigorous plant for your water garden or marshy area. Creamy white stripes accent the centers and edges of the leaf blades, with typical deep brown cattails in autumn.
A stable colorful version of our native that won't crowd out you other pond plants. Slow to propagate.
