A miniature bald cypress growing to only 8-15' tall, this fine Dutch selection of our American native makes a compact upright tree with dense fern-like foliage which is a touchable soft-green in summer and a rich glowing golden-orange in fall; a pleasing cultivar of this swamp/bayou native makes a fine choice for rain gardens. S/M-W
Deciduous. A dwarf bald cypress that only grows about 4 inches a year. Small rich green tufts of foliage. Conical to broad conical form.
Bald Cypress trees get their name because they are a deciduous conifer that drop their leaves in the winter. The deciduous nature of this tree makes it an excellent choice for planting south of your home as it produces deep shade in the summer but lets the sun through in the winter. Conifers are better choices for planting near your home compared to most broadleaf species like Maples because the branches are shorter and less likely to grow over your roof.

The other common name for Taxodium distichum is Pond Cypress because this species will thrive in bogs, swamps, and other areas with long standing water. There are very few other tree species that grow so well in poorly drained areas or along creeks and especially with the soft, feathery foliage makes the Bald Cypress one of the most useful landscape trees.

Bald Cypress are related to the Redwoods and is most similar to the Chinese Dawn Redwood, which is also deciduous. Both species are fantastic for bonsai use in addition to hedges and screens.
This plant will make a small upright tree in time. The needles occur in clump form. The light green leaves will turn lovely golden yellow before falling.
A dwarf, deciduous conifer with a compact, pyramidal shape. Lush, soft-green fern-like foliage will turn into a show of yellows and oranges before dropping in the fall. Growth Rate slow
A compact upright form, this would make an impressive bonsai, i wonder if you could get it to knee in a pan?
Not really a dwarf, but a slow growing, intriguing upright form out of Holland in recent years. Excellent rock garden plant or focus plant for a waterfall feature, given it's tolerant of roots being flooded.
This is a true columnar form of Bald Cypress and dwarf too!

This is basically a miniature Bald Cypress, eventually getting to 20' tall. This is a Dutch selection of our American native. The foliage is fernlike and the form is columnar. Good to zone 5. I'm looking forward to planting some of these in our garden come spring.

DWARF. This small Bald Cypress is dark green with a distinctive structure. Growing about 2' a year to 4' high and 3' wide in about 10 years. Nice.
