Nursery contributed plant descriptions

This 3' true blue selection of a prairie grass which thrives on heat and humidity(!) is perfect for mass plantings; it continues the show in fall, mingling its glowing blue with a deep burgundy red. S/M
Erect, upright, deciduous clumps of slender, blue-tinted leaves turn an attractive bronze to flaming orange in fall. Branched pinkish stems are topped by purplish-bronze flowers that give way to silvery-white seedheads. Ornamental Grasses are low maintenance and grow well in most soil types. They look beautiful, adding color, height, and movement to your garden. An excellent companion plant with contrasting foliage.
Little Bluestem is a tough clump forming native perennial grass that provides four seasons of interest and seemingly thrives on minimal care. Spring starts with the soft textured arching narrow blue-green foliage which changes to steel blue in summer as the dense clusters of upright flower spikes begin to emerge and will finally open to softly textured showy seed heads. The foliage and stems change to deep orange to mahagony red to complement the fall garden and the color deepens as winter sets in with the foliage lasting well into spring. Cut back old foliage and stems just before new growth begins in spring if desired. Little Bluestem is native across the U.S.A. and is an integral component of our prairies and woodlands. It is a larval food source for many butterfliies and seed eating birds. Quite tolerant of almost any soil types except for those that are commonly waterlogged for extended periods. Overly fertile soils may produce an undesirable floppy habit.
The magnificent jewel tones of this grass make it very popular here at the nursery! 3' tall, 18" wide narrow clumps of INTENSE BLUE, fine blades turn to powdery RUBY and PLUM purple in fall…lasting well into winter months. Tolerates a wide range of soil conditions, is drought tolt, deer resistant and low maintenance. Full sun is best. Keep this on the dry side and hold the fertilizer (if you get it too 'fat' it will flop); neglect is ok! Beautiful en masse, we like ours with sedums and euphorbias (they play well together). USDA Z3
A clumping grass growing to 2 feet tall that is blue-gray in summer but takes on hues of purple and amethyst in autumn.
