Rudbeckia subtomentosa 'Henry Eilers' has finely quilled flowers of true yellow, not gold, and is stunning in a mass planting. Basal leaves appear in early spring and flowering stalks begin their ascent in June, reaching five to six feet and full flower by August, often staying in bloom into September. The leaves of Rudbeckia subtomentosa are sweetly scented with a subtle vanilla fragrance. Great cut flower with its unique appearance, sturdy straight stems and long vase life. Named after the man who discovered it.

Gold quilled petals narrow upright habit
A selection of Sweet Coneflower with quilled golden petals surrounding central brown disks, on 5' stems. Blooms in Aug. and Sept. Unusual cut flower and great in the garden!
Henry Eilers found this variant with finely quilled flower petals in a southern Illinois prairie remnant and was lucky enough to have this excellent plant named for him. True yellow flowers on tall stems in late summer with the ray florets gone totally tubular. Vanilla scented leaves are a plus.
Charming blooms of unusual gold quilled petals highlighted by chocolate-brown button centers. Good for cut flowers. A narrow upright grower which makes a great specimen in the back of the border. Very appealing in the late summer. Introduced by Larry Lowman of Ridgecrest Nursery.
Tightly quilled petals circumvent a dark cone center to create a yellow starscape in late summer beds. Great with Amaranth 'Hopi Dye' or purple fall flowers.
