Nursery contributed plant descriptions

A delightful spring blooming eastern North American native for shade, it carpets the shady border with pale blue overlapping petals and evergreen foliage. Discovered at the New England Wild Flower Society, in Framingham, Massachusetts. Fragrant and steadily spreading. Woodland phlox will spread and fill in around bulbs or perennials that are late to emerge, like hosta.
Woodland phlox is a terrific native wildflower, and this is a very nice selection with large lavender-blue, fragrant flowers. As always, this species thrives in not-too-shady woodland conditions with soil on the moist side. A foot or so tall, in the wild slowly spreads to for wide sheets. Spectacular when in full bloom in the spring, sometimes looks a little ratty later in the summer. If the foliage gets mildewed, whack it back to flush new growth. Zone 3

Bill Cullina selected this form of Woodland Phlox at Garden in the Woods in Framingham MA. It is noteworthy for its deeper blue coloring and showy overlapping petals which appear in late April and carry on into June. Grows 12" and spreads moderately by stolons. 'Blue Moon' emits a lovely soft fragrance which we associate with spring.
