Pelargonium sidoides (South African Geranium), a resilient South African perennial, that makes a great companion plant for Aloes and Agave in a dry garden. Growing up to 12 inches (30 cm) in height and spreading 18 inches (45 cm) wide, it forms dense mounds of finely divided, dark green leaves. This geranium is prized for its robust nature, thriving in well-drained soil and full sun. With its low-maintenance profile, it functions admirably as ground cover, offering a verdant carpet in beds or along pathways. This hardy plant handles cold temperatures down to USDA Zone 8. Additionally, its drought tolerance makes it a sensible choice for water-wise landscapes.
We wouldn’t care if this small evergreen pelargonium never bloomed, but gosh darn it, its dark maroon/black flowers are fabulous. Silver, velvety foliage is scented to touch. Compact, to about 1' tall and wide. Sun or shade. Occasional summer water. Excellent in pots. Frost hardy to USDA zone 8.
An easy to grow geranium with silvery gray puckered leaves in a neat rosette, and dark maroon flowers that sway at the tops of the delicate-looking but strong stems. An elegant variety perfect as a specimen in a pot.
A gem among hardy pelargoniums, with ruffled and rounded blue-gray leaves and flowers that have narrow, romantic-red-violet-black petals - wonderful against the leaf color. With its relaxed habit, itis choice as a pet in a container, too, perfect as a "spiller." Minimum temperature: 0°F
A fairly hardy species, dark, velvety purple, narrow petaled flowers set off by small, silver-green foliage. Needs well drained soil. Very drought tolerant, to no ones surprise.
The silver-gray leaves of this mound-forming perennial possess distinctive curled margins that add further flair to this elegant and durable species. Small clusters of dark burgundy flowers are produced year round on slender, nodding stems in coastal California. Plants grow to 12" tall and can spread to twice as wide, but always maintain a tidy form. An exceptional container plant. Plant in full sun and well-drained soils. Hardy to 25F. South Africa.
We'll never be without this plant! P. sidoides is one of the subtle but striking species Pelargonium with scalloped grey foliage and wine colored flower on lax 12-15" wiry stems. Prefers a well drained soil and sun. Plants will grow not much more than 6"
