Nursery contributed plant descriptions

A dense, vigorous vine with delicately intricate creamy-white flowers marked with purple, green and blue; the flowers are truly unique, and some persons may attach religious significance to the floral anatomy. S/M
Hardly is there a flower that evokes a sense of the tropical more than the passion flowers. White, black and blue P. caerulea is hardy in coastal BC, especially against a south facing wall or fence. Bury the stem 6 inches deep to increase hardiness. Plant in well-drained soil that is not too moist or too rich to promote more flowers and less greenery. Edible, but not the most tasty, yellow fruit are sometimes produced.
Hardy Passionflower, this will eat your greenhouse and spread Kudzu fashion to the surrounding acreage, and attract Heliconiad butterflies from miles around, we have had Gulf Fritillaries on ours a thousand miles north of their native range.
Named in the 1600s for the religious significance of the 10 petals and sepals which represented the 10 apostles present at the crucifixion, the filaments embodied the crown of thorns or halo of Christ, the five anthers his wounds, and the three stigmas the nails. Popular today for its masses of scented flowers and ease of culture.
3" white to light purple exotic blooms held against a dark green foliage. A vigorous vine often spreading by runners. One of the hardiest passion vines often remaining evergreen in mild winters.
Striking flowers followed by orange fruits. Edible, but best in recipes. Responds differently in varying climates. In colder areas, may be deciduous or herbaceous; returning in spring. Evergreen in warmer climates.
If you want the original instead of the white 'Constance Elliot' try the species. White petals with fringy blue filaments may reach up to 4" across! Followed by egg-size deep orange fruit summer through fall -- very luscious and tropical looking. Host plant for the Gulf Fritillary Butterfly. While often listed as hardy only to Zone 7, reports of growing in 6B are numerous. Mulch thickly in winter in cold areas.
