The early spring flowers of this ?magnificent? 15-30' shrub/tree are ?the colour of newly made mustard? (Hillier) and its large attractive, often 3-lobed, leaves turn a glorious butter-yellow with tints of pink in fall! S-PSh/M
‘Spice Bush’ This great large shrub has interesting puffs of stamens in February. During blooming, it looks like Cornus mas from a distance. The leaves are oval, mitten shaped or different shapes. The green foliage will turn a rich yellow in fall. A very pretty shrub especially in the fall.
Beautiful tri-lobed, round leaves that recall Sassafras in appearance. Robust, shrubby growth, becoming wider than tall eventually. This plant "grows" on you every time you see it for its seasonal changes of color, its attractive large winter buds, its colorful fruit, and ease of care. Our stock plants tolerate quite a lot of neglect on a sun-baked hillside, and perform faithfully every year. Plants are dioecious, bearing fruit on female shrubs only.
Japanese Spicebush is one of those subtle yet interesting shrubs, with foliage reminiscent of Sassafras, that steal the show in autumn when the spotlight falls on its golden foliage. It is medium to large shrub with a rounded habit, that grows well in shade, reaching heights of 10-12'. Small yellow flowers similar to Cornus mas emit a spicy scent in early spring. 1-2' plants for spring shipping.
Rounded tri-lobed leaves like a fat Batman emblem turn gorgeous canary yellow in autumn. Swollen buds on green stems are ornamental in winter. Small tree 15 ft tall.
