Four foot, fat spikes of yellow topped by burning orange July to August (frequently into fall for us) over semi-evergreen to evergreen, curving, blue green, architectural foliage. This species is more tolerant of irrigation than others. Hummers adore the flowers. Foliage forms clumps about 3’ wide and 2’ tall. Easy to grow. USDA Z6-10 3" pot
A broad-leaved evergreen poker with blue-grey foliage held on a short woody trunk. Coral buds open soft yellow in fall. The colourful Tony Avent says it is "like a blue octopus after rigor mortis has set in." You can imagine then that it is an interesting structural addition to the garden and useful as a focal point where you wish to draw the eye.
Gorgeous blue-green rosettes of foliage are garden worthy in their own right. By late summer the clump is crowned with glowing crimson, golden, and ivory torches that create a focal point in the border or xeriscape. One of the most versatile and showy of wild torch lilies, this promises to be a "must have" for all who see it. Does best in loamy soil.. USDA zones 4b-9 (up to7000').
Narrow, evergreen, blue-green leaves maintain a good garden presence throughout the year so the July-August flowers, orange and yellow on 4 ft spikes are a wonderful bonus. Heat and drought tolerant, so bright sun and little summer water. Enjoy! Frost hardy in USDA zone 6.
I can honestly say I’ve never met a Kniphofia that I didn’t like & this is one of my favorites. The foliage is wide & a beautiful silver-blue color. The leaves are held fairly stiffly, giving it the look of an Aloe when not in bloom. Chunky flower heads of orange tubes age to a pale yellow. In late Summer through Fall. The foliage is so great, it’s worth growing for that alone. The rosettes will eventually form basal stems if grown in a warm climate where they won’t freeze back. Native to the Drakensburg Mountains of South Africa, this Kniphofia is pretty cold hardy. It will look best in rich, well drained soil. To 3’x3’ clump. Hummingbirds love the flowers!

Bluish green leaves in upright clusters are reason enough to grow this species. Thick orange and yellow poker flower on 3' stems and 2' diameter plants.
