A favorite, beautiful Western native! This gracefully arching shrub (6-12') is a cascade of white, late spring blooms and a subtle flame of orange in fall. S/M-D
A pretty, deciduous shrub with green leaves. Cream flower sprays mature to berries that attract birds and are edible and used in herbal medicine. The wood is very hard and was used for building pegs before the days of metal nails. Growth Rate fast
An absolutely gorgeous deciduous shrub 4-5' tall. In most situations, tolerant of both moist and dry situations, but growing larger with more shade and water, reaching up to 10' in height. From May to August, enjoy this plant's 5" fragrant, creamy coral sprays of flowers (edible!) and the pleasant, sweet scent the foliage emits when bruised. Excellent when used away from the house in the background, along a shaded walk, or as part of a north slope ground cover. Very beautiful and fragrant as a replacement for Baby's Breath in bouquets. It has a more antique white old fashioned look. Native to California and is also found outside of California, but is confined to western North America. Provides larval food for the Spring Azure, Pale Swallowtail, and Lorquin's Admiral butterflies. Good wildlife plant that is resistant to browsing deer and stabilizes hillsides. A decoction of leaves was used to treat influenza by the Navajo people and the long branches were used to make baby baskets and arrows by the Kashaya Pomo people. Very strong and dense wood prized by woodworkers and other craftspersons. Found in coastal bluffs to lower elevation mountains. Communitites located in Redwood Forest, Douglas-Fir Forest, Yellow Pine Forest, Red Fir Forest, Lodgepole Forest, Mixed Evergreen Forest, Chaparral, Wetland-riparian Between 0 and 9600 feet .
A vigorous ornamental shrub of varying height. It prefers a sunny well drained location; partial shade will encourage taller growth. Clusters of creamy white flowers hang down from the branches amidst the summer leaves of green above and soft gray below. The flowers age to a lovely golden color later in the fall.

One of my favorite native plants, the name “Oceanspray” really describes it well. When in bloom, the flowers look just like a foaming wave crashing down. The fragrant 5” flower clusters bloom May-July & age to a lovely russet color. Excellent for attracting butterflies & bees to your garden, it would be a beautiful addition to a bouquet. Native to British Columbia down to California & east to Utah & Nevada. Native Americans used the strong wood of this plant to make arrows & the flowers & seeds are both edible. Can be grown in sun or shade but looks better with a little bit of both, such as on the edge of a tree canopy. Can also tolerate salt air & wind. To 8’ tall & wide.
Northwest native shrub with copious foamy white flowers on arching branches in early summer. Deciduous shrub 8' x 8'
