Nursery contributed plant descriptions

(ST JOSEPH’S LILY) Semi-evergreen bulb that quickly forms and impressive clump of broad, strappy leaves 24-30” long. Clusters of zippy scarlet red trumpets with white star centers in April May have a spicy fragrance. Most soils (even clay), sun to part shade (at least half day of sun) and moderate water. Blooms best in the ground. Foliage takes on red hues on sunny sites. Clumps are 1-2’ tall and 3’ wide+.
The original! One of the first Hippeastrum Hybrids, and still one of the best. Also called St Josephs Lily and Hardy Amaryllis. This sought after Southern Heirloom thrives in typically bad southern conditions. You can expect them to multiply, so be prepared to share with friends. Unfortunately, many heirloom bulbs have picked up plant viruses and diseases over the years. This slows down their growth and dims their vitality. These bulbs have been cleaned through tissue culture and tested virus and disease free. We have grown them for a year here and the bulbs are now 1-2" across (they never get as big as modern armaryllis). They have excellent root systems and we will make an efford to save these roots when we dig them up for you.
Deep velvety red trumpets are born atop the thick sturdy stems of this hardy Amaryllis. A wonderful and easy slowly multiplying bulbous perennial.
Fragrant bright red trumpets with an eye catching white star pattern. Stems 2' tall on clumping plants
