Showy poppy flowers of burnt-orange with a center of peach stamens are lovely atop 18-24" mounds of fuzzy, deeply-cut blue-green foliage spring-to-fall; oil from its eye-catching seed pods was used in lanterns. S/M-D PP17683
Deeply cut, silver white foliage in evergreen clumps topped by arching stems with bright orange poppies late spring to summer. Attractive narrow, silver seed pods; flowering plants are 12-18” tall and wide. Sun is best, at least 5-6 hours, well drained soil, occasional water (takes moderate water in summer if soil drains well). Lovely as a silver accent, xeriscape, rock garden. Frequently reseeds lightly.
The beautiful cut leaf silver foliage is reason enough to grow this plant, but in mid summer it delights with single yellow orange chalice blossoms on 18" stems. The peculiar but interesting long narrow "horned" seed pods that follow add interest and will drop seed for more plants where it is happy. Do note that Horned Poppy requires soil with excellent drainage to winter over, and we think our stock plant is in just the right spot.
An absolutely great foliage plant for the garden. Easy, drought tolerant & not fussy about soil, “Horned Poppy” makes a mound of unusual, deeply cut, curly kind of silvery-gray foliage that provides nice contrast in the garden. In late Spring thru Summer, it bears branching stems of shiny, bright orange, yellow-centered, single poppy flowers followed by really long seed pods (up to 1’!). I’ve had a “Horned Poppy” in my garden for 3 years & I’ve never had to cut it back or fertilize it, it just always looks good. To 18" high & wide.
Deeply scalloped silver leaves are eye-catching with the cantaloupe orange flowers. Botanically interesting 6" long horn-shaped seed pods.
