We aren't big collectors of gladiolus, but there are some wonderful varieties. G. 'Boone' is one of the best. The two foot flower stalks are line with yellow to peachy flowers. We got this nice plant from Holbrook Farm Nursery that was near Ashville, NC.
RARE – 2' stems bear copious, soft yellow & peach flowers in summer! Full sun, good drainage, great naturalizer – Easy to grow – Floriferous and carefree – Has been deer resistant here – best with a bit of summer water – great cut flower too.
Hardy Gladiolus. Pale Apricot medium sized flowers on 3-4' stems. Discovered in Boone NC (zone 6) and has wintered over in well drained soil with a protective mulch in our southern New England Garden.
Apricot-peach-orange flowers with yellow and red markings in the throat held on narrow, 4' stalks -- what's not to love? -- open in early summer on this gladiolus of mysterious. Discovered at an abandoned homestead in mountainous Boone, NC, by Jeff Owens, a county extension agent, and studied by several plantsmen, this amazing glad made its way to market with its origins still unknown. Happy in full sun, multiplying and seeding itself to provide lots of plants to share. Frost hardy to at least -10 °F, USDA zone 6, with many claims of easy survival in zone 5. Iridaceae
Don't like glads? We dare you to try wee, wildflowery 'Boone'. Collected at an abandoned homestead in the Appalachians near Boone, NC, it has graceful, pint-sized, primulinusblooms of soft apricot, and it's remarkably hardy _ through zone 6 at least, and many of our zone-5 customers tell us it's perennial for them, too. Like 'Carolina Primrose', it's an early form of the "Maid of the Mist" glad (G. primulinus, now G. dalenii, from Victoria Falls to the US in 1908), and awesome.
Amazing it's hardy! Gorgeous apricot-amber flowers with orange-red streaks on the two lower petals, presumably landing support for bees. In cooler regions than USDA zone 6 mulch or take inside.
Summery warm colors of golden apricot and peachy orange on 3' stems on this perennial you'll want to share with everyone.
