Nursery contributed plant descriptions

?With flowers like a summer sky at dawn? (R. Farrer);brilliantly blue upturned tubular flowers highlight prostrate stems arranged wheel-like around the crown. S-PSh/M
One of the medium sized gentianas, to a little less than a foot, with masses of small, true-blue flowers in the late summer into fall. The taller gentianas get overshadowed by comparison to the tiny, elite, difficult acaulis types, but I think the comparison is unfair. You wouldn't put this in a trough, but in a perennial boarder it is spectacular, the color of the flowers is hard to beat, is provides a wonderful lift to the late summer garden when things can be getting a bit dull, and unlike G. acaulis, it doesn't up and die for no reason, which is always a plus. Whorls of deep blue flowers are held above the narrow dark green leaves on 10" stems. One of the easier Gentian to grow.
