Nursery contributed plant descriptions

This is one of the best of the Fargesias for hedges because it is incredibly fast growing, upright, and will tolerate more sun than most other species in the Fargesia genus. Fargesia 'Scabrida' is also one of the more colorful of the genus - the new shoots are often colored dark purples or reds and orange or cinnamon colored sheaths, with the canes fading to deep green. Eventually, the oldest canes take on a ghostly white color. When all of these canes are mixed together, the contrast is quite impressive. This is likely one of the most colorful hardy clumping bamboo species.
Like all Fargesia species, Fargesia 'Scabrida' is a clumping and non-invasive bamboo that won't take over your yard. It forms a medium sized evergreen clump about three to five feet in diameter. 'Scabrida' is one of the fastest growing bamboo species in our nursery and one gallon plants size up very fast. Every year, divisions of 'Scabrida' flush out growth and size up for sale before any other bamboo species we offer. One gallon sized plants often reach five feet in height the next year in two gallon containers, if we ever have any left to repot.

A beautiful clumping bamboo. It has dark orange sheaths. Growth Rate medium
Amazingly decorative, the new (all summer) growth of this non-spreading 14' clumper is sheathed in orange, opening to steel-blue & lavender-pink culms which age to green; outstanding for screen/container, not in SE. SUN-PSh/Med
Culm sheaths of orange red are striking against dark green new leaves. Growth to 16' tall and clump forming.
