The blue flower heads of the ultra-compact Eryngium planum 'Blue Hobbit' are surrounded by large frilled blue bracts that look like a thimble crossed with a thistle. The strong stems are also blue near the top. Great for hot, dry sunny spots. Sea hollies can go through a dumb phase after flowering before reflushing a mound of new leaves. Popular with bees and butterflies. Deer and rabbit resistant.

Eryngium planum 'Blue Hobbit' is a dwarf, mounding, basal branching perennial that displays interesting purple-blue, thistle-like flowers. Provides color and texture over a long period of time. Deadhead occasionally to encourage new blooms. Sea Holly grows best in well-drained soil with low nutrients. Tolerates full sun and heat. Great in mixed borders and containers.
