Elongated heart shaped foliage with feathery edging emerges in spring in hues of bronze to coppery reds slowly fading to green by summer, remaining through winter. Showy spring flowers are bi-colored white and burgundy. Low mounds, 8-10” tall eventually expanding to 4’ to create a lovely woodland ground cover. Bright shade or AM sun,moist well drained soil.
Maroon spurs and cup are covered by an overskirt of crystalline-white frilly sepals, the largest flower in the genus. Springtime bloom, ten inches tall and evergreen, this one delights further with delicately spotted red new leaves. Up to 8" spread/year. Minimum temperature: -20°F
Thick mass of dark, glossy green leaves topped in spring with very floriforous, largest for species of pure white sepals with reddish purple spurs & cups. Plant in partial sun to nearly full shade. Height: 6” to 10”. Stoloniferous Zones 5b-9. Evergreen.
Recently discovered, vigorous, low-growing species from China with glossy dark green leaves and large, arresting flowers. White sepals with plum purple spurs--sometimes as many as thirty--hang from each stem in spring and sometimes again in fall. Excellent as am evergreen ground cover in shady areas. Height to 10" and spreading at a rate of 6-8" a year. Part sun to light shade best. Water occasionally in summer to keep from drying out. Divide in fall or spring. Frost hardy to USDA zone 5.
