Fantastic as a massed groundcover or bright accent in the woodland, davidii features rather large long spurred bright yellow flowers held well above the jagged toothed glossy evergreen foliage. Some growers cut the evergreen foliage types back in spring to better display the brilliant emerging new spring growth, we seldom get around to it and they still look good. ZONE 4

Blooms: spring-summer, yellow, large spurs/ red spotted new growth, evergreen foliage Zone 5-9. 18", China, part shade-shade, moist, well drained
Not often found in the trade, this species of Fairy Wings or Barrenwort can be found in its native habitat growing on moist, limestone cliffs and near streams in western Sichuan Province, P.R. China. Despite this, it adapts well to acid soils. The small nodding pale yellow blossoms, accented with red, begin blooming in mid spring and continue, although in lesser quantities, into July. New foliar growth is tinted copper, gradually becoming olive green. 12" tall, slowly spreading to 2' or more.
