This broad leafed fern will eventually grow into colonies. The fronds are very different than all the other dryopteris. Said to like heat in summer.
Handsome and unusual, evergreen to semi-evergreen fern, to 20” x 30”, the shiny leaves shaped like the halberd of a sword with prominent mid veins. Fronds emerge pale green and mature to shiny dark, almost black, green. Discovered in Japan by Dr. Von Siebold and named in his honor. For shade to part shade with even moisture. Once established, reliably hardy to 5 F, mid USDA zone 7.
A distinctive arching habit and pinnae (leaflets) which are large and leathery distinguish this handsome and uncommon 1-2' woodlander. PSh-Sh/M
Large fronds form big, thick, blue green leaves with a decidedly Jurassic appearance in clumps 2’ wide and 18” tall. Everyone who sees this wants it! Evergreen to single digits, typical fern culture, a shaded area protected from blustering winds, organic moist soil. Deer resistant. I have found this to be an easy houseplant as well. It’s just a COOL fern!
Zn 6. Pale green foliage. Evergreen.
A slow-growing beauty with rigid, wide, finger-like fronds of pale green is a personal favorite. Semi-evergreen to 20" tall. Minimum temperature: -10 °F
Handsome, arching mound of frosty green, thickly textured, lanceolate fronds with two to five pairs of undivided pinnae plus a long undivided terminal pinnae. Plant in low sun to full shade in well drained, moist soil. Zones 6 to 9. Size: 2 to 4'. Evergreen.
