Curious cockscomb-like, crested shoots of bright-green (sometimes as large as a hand), decorate many of the short, upturned branches of this small eye-catching (to 10' eventually) conifer. S-PSh/M
A fairly slender, pyramidal plant with dark green foliage and clumpy, congested areas of cristate growth (cockscombs) scattered throughout the branches.
Distinct flat cockscomb tips. Will mature at about 20 feet. These large plants have been pruned to form trunks.
This crested form of the Japanese Cedar has cockscomb growth that is intriguing and useful in floral design and holiday wreaths, or just as geometric interest for your garden. 25' T x 12' W; evergreen. Minimum temperature: -10°F
Crested columnar cryptomeria/tall narrow evergreen
Odd, congested growth on the tips of some branches. Resembles coxcombs. Columnar form. Zones 6-9.
Of the many conifers that have been selected for fasciations (web-footed contortions) this is one that is very interesting, vigorous, and exceptional as a specimen or a container plant. Since it is a Cryptomeria, it also is happy with most any cultural condition.
