Nursery contributed plant descriptions

The golden fern-like foliage of this columnar tree is tipped orange in winter, a ?Wow!? type plant for accent or narrow site. S-PSh/M
Rich, golden-yellow color takes on an orange cast during the cold days of winter. This slower-growing, upright tree really glows in the garden! Excellent, scale-like foliage adds a nice texture to this choice conifer.
Berrima Gold' is a bright yellow selection of the Western Incense-cedar and develops a wide conical habit with dense branching. The foliage color changes somewhat throughout the year, with the truest yellow developing in late spring and lasting through the end of the summer. As the cold of winter approaches the foliage will develop orange undertones and can change to an attractive orange-bronze color by late winter.

Like the species, 'Berrima Gold' is very easy to grow and thrives in a wide range of conditions. It is tolerant of both wet and dry soil, hot summers and cold winters, wind, snow, and poor nutrition. Calocedrus decurrens and its varieties are so tough that they often grow in locations where no other trees will grow in the rugged Siskiyou mountains south of our nursery. Of course, plants are much happier and will grow faster and fuller when grown under normal landscape conditions. But if you have a tough site where little else will grow, 'Berrima Gold' or other Incense-cedar varieties are a good option.

These plants will grow upright on their own and form even edges without pruning but can will tolerate even heavy shearing for formal hedges or to create a specific shape.

Like most yellow-leafed plants, 'Berrima Gold' prefers some afternoon shade in extremely hot climates to prevent leaf scorching.
Glowing twist on a west coast native, evergreen conifer with leafy scales of lemon yellow on a relatively slow growing tree. Columnar form, 5’ tall and 2’ slim at 10 years… perhaps 20’ high and 4-5’ at maturity. Coppery orange winter highlights! Any soil with decent drainage, some afternoon shade, moderate water. Tough and drought tolerant when established.
Our native incense cedar is a large deep green foliage conifer. C. d. 'Berrima Gold' will be much smaller and the foliage is a brilliant yellow all year. We finally found a source for a few plants of the handsome golden foliaged tree.
Pale gold to yellow-green in spring and summer. In fall turns a pleasing golden-orange. In hotter climates protect from afternoon sun to prevent leaf scorch.
Fabulous winter flame of gold with tawny amber tips. This one really lit my fire the first time we met. Slow growing conifer.
