Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Very showy, large clusters of bright, glossy, amethyst-purple berries late summer through October (starts earlier on this cultivar than species) are the fame of this deciduous shrub growing 3-4’ high and 4-5’ wide. Sun best for fruit development; well drained, moist soil preferred but takes some drought. Flowers/fruits on new growth. Birds enjoy the fruits. Nice in cut arrangements. Easy to grow and NEEDS a spot in your garden!
A beacon for the fall border, this deciduous Korean species is considered by many to be the most refined Beautyberry, and its boldly hued early September fruit occurs well before other varieties. Small and shiny, rounded berry clusters achieve an astonishing, almost electric lavender hue. Flowers are delicate, diminutive and pink, quietly dressing up its handsome, very green leaf mass and gracefully rounded form. 'Early Amethyst' prefers well drained soil, tolerates some drought, appreciates a late winter pruning and produces more fruit when planted in groups.
A spectacular plant for the fall and early winter with its abundant displays of bright purple berries. A more compact variety, it has a mature size of 3-4' tall and wide. Great for small hedges or in mass plantings.
Tiny purple berries appear in profusion in late summer on this improved Beautyberry. The stems arch and bend to show off the berries to best effect. Grows 3-4' high and wide.

The bright-purple berries of Callicarpas are really quite astonishing!; this 3-4' rounded shrub (new from Arnold Arb.) offers them earlier in the season allowing for more time to enjoy them in garden or vase. S-P/M
September. Introduced by the Arnold Arboretum. Callicarpa is Greek for Beautiful Fruit and it certainly has that! Berries dry beautifully for arrangements. Best fruit when cross-pollinated between several plants. Will die back in zone 5 more like a Perennial but returns in the Spring.
