This 6 - 8' tall and wide multi-stemmed deciduous shrub has narrow silver leaves and a fountain of cascading, fragrant, lavender flowers in spring on the previous season's growth. This one doesn't have to be cut back. It's always a butterfly, bee, and hummingbird draw. Place it just about anywhere it can get plenty of sun and it will tolerate just about any kind of soil that happens to be there. Easy and very rewarding - a garden spectacle! Minimum temperature: -20°F
This prize-winning yet under-used Buddleja holds cascading lavender flowers along its arching stems. As it flowers on last year's wood, prune out after flowering to three feet and again later in the season if it gets lanky. An easy-to-grow gem attracting butterflies throughout the summer.
Lovely silvery foliage form of this Chinese species, the arching stems of silvery leaves are beset in spring with fragrant clusters of flowers in the leaf axils, producing an inflorescence several feet long. It blooms on the previous seasons wood and is not a die-back; butterflies flock to it in unbelievable numbers more even than davidii.
1998 Plant Select®. Small tree or large shrub that does well in a variety of soils and sites. Lavender to violet flowers for several weeks in high spring making this a centerpiece of the garden. Blue-gray, sometimes silver foliage is very finely textrured. Blends well in a naturalistic design, shrub borders, or as a specimen in mixed border or lawn. May develop into a small tree or can be trained into outstanding standard." (Bluebird Nursery) Please know, it's slow and diminutive as a first year plant. Please don't expect a robust bigster like the B. davidiis. It's much more delicate looking and starts showing the weeping habit early so are usually flopped over in the pot! It gets over that!
