Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Native from Minnesota through the prairies to Texas, this is one tough sodbuster. Asparagus-like new growth expands into divided rounded leaflets with spires of white Lupinesque flowers in late spring/early summer. Hardier than hell, drought tolerant and a nitrogen fixer.
Tall inflorescences of pure white flowers open on plants 4-5' tall x 2' wide. Long-lived North American native, baptisias are tolerant of just about any critter (except maybe elephants), and just about any kind of crummy soil. Butterflies will add all the more ornamentation to these white April and May blooms.
