    Balsamorhiza deltoidea is a broadleaf deciduous perennial with green foliage. In spring and summer yellow flowers emerge. Attracts bees and butterflies making it an excellent addition to pollinator gardens. Grows well with sun - mostly sun and occasional - low water. Drought tolerant once established. Prefers to be dry in summer, dry when dormant. Does well in average, gritty, rich and well-drained soil. A good option if you're seeking something wind tolerant.

    Choice Northwest native with attractive nectar-rich yellow mini-sunflowers. Long-lived if given a dry resting period when dormant. The leaves resemble fuzzy mule's ears and the flowers are on short stalks. Edible shoots - raw; edible roots - raw or cooked (sweeter). Roasted roots have historically been used for a coffee substitute. Roots are substantial and the plant resents being moved once planted as a youngster. 2' x 2'Minimum temperature: -10° F
