Nursery contributed plant descriptions

An evergreen, clumping perennial. Fans of light green, sword-like, ribbed leaves form dense clumps. Throughout spring, slender, much branched stems are produced bearing small, electric blue, star shaped flowers. Quick growing and tough with flowers of an incredible hue. Best in partial shade, but will grow in sun. Prefers an acidic soil.

A beautiful, long-lived, bulbous (rhizomatous actually) iris relative from South Africa, with flowers of a glorious, bright azure blue produced over a long bloom season (early Spring thru Summer). The 2 ½’ flower spikes are borne atop tough, clump forming, sword-shaped leaves. Lovely along pathways and beside water features. A natural for our Pacific Coast weather! Hardy to 20 °F. Reseeds! Good soil is best. Shade in hotter areas.

Sky-blue flowers with yellow anthers perch on two foot tall stems that have yellow-green, softly arching narrow leaves. It is a summer rainfall flower and comes from the Eastern Cape of South Africa to Tanzania. Place in a sheltered location, and remove seed heads if you want it to remain localized.
