Nursery contributed plant descriptions

This charming red form of Anemone multifida deserves to be better-known. Wonderfully textured, finely cut foliage with little silver hairs gives rise to red cups with yellow centres in early summer. The seed heads look like soft white upward-facing strawberries. Reblooms in the fall. In all this species offers great interest through the entire season at the front of the sun border. From the northern US and Canada with disjunt populations in South America.
I’ve always loved Anemone flowers, they’re so sweet & charming & this one is especially bright & cheerful with deep magenta petals offset with a yellow center of stamens. On the petite side, bloom stems reach 12-18” tall with finely cut dissected foliage below that grows 6-9” wide. The 1” wide flowers bloom Spring-Summer & are followed by cute egg-shaped seed heads that disintegrate into cottony-fluff that hummingbirds love to line their nests with. Growing best in rich, well-drained soil, provide some afternoon shade in hot climates. A hybrid with North American origins, great in moist rock gardens, edge of woodland or front of the border spots.
