Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Hailing from the Mediterranean, this stately grass yields fine textured, evergreen blades tough enough to fashion ties, ropes and baskets, and large enough to make an imposing stand-alone specimen in your mixed border. Lofty, upward and arching stems race skyward, asserting mostly one-sided pearl-colored panicles above a dark green clump-forming mound. While airy purple-flushed inflorescences invite birds and gardeners alike, the robust Rope Grass maintains its majestic composure throughout the winter, requiring a sheltered, sunny position with well drained soil.
Rope Grass is so called because of its tough evergreen blades that have been used for basketry and ropes. This robust and stately fountain of grass native to the Mediterranean has impressive flower heads. Plant in a well-draining, sheltered and sunny location where you can also enjoy the purple-infused tan inflorescences July – November. Forms a large tussock, reaching 6'– 9' tall or more.
