Nursery contributed plant descriptions

From the periodic drought area of Brazil and Northern Argentina, this imbricate blue-green leaved perennial with dusty salmon colored flowers, as if that could ever happen, adorned with olive green tips flowers from Spring through Autumn. Winter deciduous, enjoys the occasional Summer irrigation. USDA Zone 7.
A most unusual species, with tubular flowers above gray-green, narrow leaves. Despite looking so delicate, it makes a great cut flower as it holds the umbels of numerous flowers on sturdy stems. Grows like any hybrid Alstroe in well drained soil and is hardy to at least zone 7 with protective mulch.
Exquisite umbels of two-inch pendulous, tubular flowers bloom in soft shades of orange and green. Look inside for secret colors. On 2 - 3' tall stems these flowers provide a looong show, July - August! And they're so graceful against stiff, upright, narrow gray-blue clasping leaves. In flower and leaf, this is a beautifully different Alstroemeria. If you can stand to, cut it for your vase but make sure your vase is lovely enough for it. Given space in the garden, it will slowly create a colony in rich, moist, well-draining soil, repaying you for that effort in spades. This Brazilian has been known to survive single digits. Minimum temperature: 0 °F
We got this from Maggie at Western Hills some years ago and finally can offer this goody. She said this was a hybrid by noted California breeder Fred Meyer between the vining Bomarea and the non-vining Alstroemeria and we have sold it in the past as Alstroemeria x Bomarea 'Fred Meyer' and more recently as Bomarea "Fred Meyer". The great thing about putting a plant on the internet is that all sorts of smart people read about it and very nicely suggest the correct name. This is a surprisingly hardy Brazilian species and Fred Meyer collected in Brazil quite extensively. Good cut flower with long clean stems. We've had this growing happily outside for years and going through single digits in winter with mulch.
