Ornamental onions offer intriguing spherical or egg-shaped inflorescences comprised of hundreds of tiny flowers. A. schubertii has loose, volleyball-sized heads of rosy purple, star-shaped flowers held on stalks of unequal length which looks like a giant firework exploding. When the fruits ripen, the inflorescence detaches from the stem and rolls through the fields like a tumbelweed thus dispersing the seeds. From Israel and adjacent regions. Available in spring as potted plants and in fall as dry bulbs.

These wonderful alliums always draw exclamations from visitors while they are in bloom! HUGE open clusters to 12” across explode on one foot stems in late May, looking like a rose purple fireworks event! Long after the flowers fade, the dried remains resemble intriguing sculptural elements in the garden or in the vase... we like to hit them with a poof of colorful spray paint for fun! Heirloom, Circa 1896 USDA Zone 5 3"x 3"x 5" pot

Gigantic flowers with loosely arranged florets give these eye-popping spheres a delicate look, despite their basketball size. Flowers dry easily and then can be picked and brought inside; place on shelves, in a slender vase or hang from a light fixture. Let your imagination go!

Evoking the charged energy of a bursting firecracker, some 200 miniature star-styled florets top stiff pedicels, which shoot out in all different lengths from the flower's center. Sponsored by wavy, 1 in. wide straps and thick staunch stems, the fantastic spidery globes

Has to be seen to be believed. The flowers make "fireworks" up to a foot across. The seedhead is interesting even after flowering, and will evoke questions and comments long after the flowers fade. You can even paint the seedhead if you want to keep things colorful. Zones 5-9. Large 12+ cm around bulbs.

Extraordinary inflorescence likened most often to a fireworks starburst whose rosy purple flower is comprised of many spidery florets of unequal length getting the size of a volley ball or as big as a basketball. Brings a certain off-world esthetic to the garden. Very cool dried.

Giant 12-16" starry metallic purple orbs (a super nova kind of flower) always command a second glance and raves. Stems are only 12-16" tall so place near the front of a dry border or walk. A huge sparkler when dried.
