Ornamental onions offer intriguing spherical or egg-shaped inflorescences comprised of hundreds of tiny flowers. 'Globemaster' is absolutely one of the best alliums -- sparkling silvery pinkish purple softball to volleyball sized flowers that produce secondary florets which extend the bloom time. Blooms with the bearded irises. Available in spring as potted plants and in fall as dry bulbs.
GIANT ORNAMENTAL ONION - Spectacular purple globes up to 10" across on 40" stems. Clumps of dark green foliage. Blooms in early summer, likes sun and is deer and critter resistant. Hardy in zone 4-8. Attracts butterflies.
Has to be seen to be believed. The flowers spectacular heads up to a foot across. The seedhead is interesting even after flowering, and will evoke questions and comments long after the flowers fade. You can even paint the seedhead if you want to keep things colorful. Zones 5-9. Top Size 20-22 cm around bulbs. Normally very expensive at nearly $10 each.
"Master! I'm not worthy!" Ed. Note: Typical lament heard from other Alliums when planted near Globemaster with it's over-the-top silvery lilac softball to volleyball sized flowers. Recommend minimum distance of 15' from other Alliums unless sight restrictions exist.
Towering, full, lavender-purple globes on 3' stems create a strong focal point in the late spring garden. Long-lasting.
